National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday. Google doodle celebrated the occasion on Monday, following the lead of Facebook and Snapchat and urging its users to vote. Now Instagram, Uber, and Twitter are joining in on the movement.
Starting Tuesday, Instagram will send its users who are 18 and older a message (via sponsored post) urging them to vote. There will be a link in the caption that reads "Learn More" that will redirect users to vote.usa.gov, where they can learn more about how to register. This will go on through Sept. 30. Read more...

At the time, there was speculation the Star Wars actress had quit following the negative attention one of her posts about gun violence received.
Then there were reports that she'd reactivated her account to share the following note, before swiftly deactivating it again.

There was a time when a cardboard box was just a simple brown vessel in which to mail packages. These days, as we purchase more products online than we do in brick-and-mortar stores, brands are using attractive packaging to create a delightful unwrapping experience that allows them to stand out from the crowd. As our doorsteps are piling up with an increasingly diverse array of boxes, bubble mailers, and envelopes, a colorful, beautifully designed box is the modern-day equivalent to having an eye-catching storefront.

When Desert Trip was announced in May, its lineup of septuagenarian rock artists quickly earned it the nickname "Oldchella," or "Coachella for old people." Conversely, the mega-event featuring such luminaries as Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Roger Waters was also called the "concert of the century," but it has an uphill climb if it wants to satisfy discerning baby-boomer foodies, who aren't going to be impressed with the typical subpar catering fare once associated with concerts.

The governor of California signed a bill into law today that will make it illegal for entertainment websites like IMDB to post the ages of actors if that actor requests the information to be taken down. Needless to say, free speech advocates are outraged.
Snapchat is losing the "chat."
The company has been renamed Snap Inc., the Wall Street Journal reported late Friday night. Cleaner, right?
That's not all: The company will also release video-recording sunglasses called Spectacles this fall. They contain a 115-degree-angle lens that will allow the wearer to record up to 30 seconds of video, a Snap Inc. representative told Mashable, and will cost $129.99. Supplies will be limited, and they'll come in one-size-fits-all variants of black, teal or coral, the Journal said. Of course, you'll be able to post your videos directly to the Snapchat app. Read more...
